SEMA Approved Racking Inspector Course

What is the SEMA Racking Inspection Course?

The SEMA Approved Rack Inspector course is an intensive four-day programme designed to equip delegates with the knowledge and guidance needed to carry out ‘expert’ rack inspections in line with SEMA guidelines. The course includes both a written examination and a practical assessment.

The initial qualification focuses on adjustable pallet racking, with the option to extend it to cover cantilever racking.

This programme incorporates Continuous Professional Development (CPD), reinforcing the qualification and demonstrating a commitment to both the end user and the wider industry, in keeping with SEMA’s standards of quality and professionalism.

Aim of the course

SEMA and the HSE recommend implementing a hierarchical inspection regime comprising three levels: operator damage reporting, regular internal inspections, and an annual inspection carried out by a competent (‘expert’) inspector.

This course is aimed at providing a professional rack inspection qualification to demonstrate a minimum level of competence to undertake the ‘expert’ annual inspection of adjustable pallet racking.

The course comprises:
  • On-line pre-qualification assessment
  • Classroom training
Followed by:
  • Written examination
  • Practical inspection carried out under observation
  • Reporting on the inspection
  • Continuing professional development

The course objective is to ensure candidates understand the role of the SARI and are able to:
  • Understand the responsibilities of everyone involved in the safe operation of the storage system
  • Understand the correct use and limitations of the racking system
